De’Ja Geter-Jackson is a senior Family Science major from Baltimore, Maryland. She is Editor-in-Chief of The Black Explosion Newspaper and a scholar of the University of Maryland Incentive Awards Program.
Breana Bacon is a senior Multiplatform Journalism major and managing editor of the Black Explosion from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She is also Editor-in-Chief of Pulsefeedz.com and President of the Maryland Association of Black journalists.
Alexandra Russell, also known as Lexi, is a senior Kinesiology major and Innovation & Entrepreneurship minor. She is a member of the University of Maryland Dance Team. She is an aspiring artist and businesswoman and has started a website called TheLexiShow.com which features her art, newest projects, and a blog section.
Simret Aklilu is a Multiplatform Journalism major from Silver Spring, Maryland. Her interests include listening to music, writing, traveling as well as volunteering at the Ethiopian Community Center. Her ultimate goal is to go to law school and become a media lawyer.
Chioma Ahaghotu is a Psychology and Broadcast Journalism double major from Prince George’s County and born into a Nigerian family. Her goal is to become a news anchor for the Good Morning America. During her free time, she enjoys being involved in different organizations and community in her area. She enjoys baking, tutoring students, and writing. She is also a social media manager for 7 City Events.
Makayla Johnson is a junior Broadcast Journalism major. She is from Baltimore, Maryland and loves reading, practicing photography, writing poetry and binge-watching movies on Netflix.
Shayla Stringfield is a sophomore majoring in Public Health. She enjoys working with kids, sharing her opinions on various hair products, and volunteering.
Tomi Adeboyejo is currently a junior and is majoring is journalism. Tomi believes joining Black Explosion, will give her the platform to educate others on the issues and progress needed in our community,
Lillian Andemicael is an student journalist based in the DC area. She is a freshman in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and contributes to several local publications, including the Diversions section of The Diamondback and blogs for the 930 Club’s Half Past.
Alexis Ojeda-Brown is a Junior English and American History double major from PG county. One of her aspirations is to create a Publishing company dedicated to publishing works staring characters of Color written by POC in order to bring more diversity to the Children’s/Young Adult literature world. She loves writing fiction, watching anime, and playing PokemonGO. #TeamValor
Jasmine Boyd is a native Washingtonian, undergraduate student at the University of Maryland. She is a junior broadcast journalism major and aspires to minor in African American Studies. She transferred from Old Dominion University in 2014. In the field of journalism, she will help to serve her community by giving a voice to many people who do not have one and telling honest newsworthy stories. She is young mother and loves to spend quality time with her special little man when she is not in class or at work. She also enjoys reading horror stories, watching scary movies, and dancing.
